I love the mountains, forests, seas, rocks, birds and animals of the land I live in and the lands I travel to. When I ski the mountains or hike along the coast or in forests I paint and draw what I see. When I return home I make my images into plates for printing which I print at the Edinburgh Printmakers workshop using a process called collagraphy, a way of printing which is relatively new and exploratory.
I make these plates by attaching string, tiling cement, different papers and natural materials such as feathers on a card to create interesting textures. The collagraph plate is inked up and printed like an etching. Recently I have been exploring the combination of printing drypoint and collagraphs together, particularly in my new venture of printing birds. For more details see How I make my art.
The process is exciting because you never really know what the result will be. There is a real magic and every result is original and a surprise. I produce limited editions of each print; I only print each plate at the most 10 times, however as a result of the way I place ink on the plates (inking up a la poupee) each print is unique.
My prints all fit into one of 5 sizes of IKEA frame- for details see framing
My current project is travelling around Scotland collecting plein aire images and making these into collagraphs. The map below charts my progress so far and points out areas I have not visited -watch this space

- I have also ran a successful pop up shop selling my and a couple of colleague’s prints in Angus Design and Build on Bruntsfield Place in Edinburgh. Firstly, for more than a year (Oct 2016-Jan2018) and then, having learnt that the pre-Christmas season was the best time, Oct 2018- Jan 2019. Sadly, Angus Design and Build no longer exists though I did manage to get a short collaboration at Churchill in Edinburgh for a pop up shop with Easy Treesy – December 2020 where I extended my repertoire to selling Xmas trees as well!
