Across Rannoch Moor again or Across Rannoch Moor - which do you prefer?

I am using lockdown to cull my prints again. Old prints that I no longer feel satisfied with get cut up and made into cards. This time I have a new twist on the activity. This time I am revisiting prints that I have made where the edition has sold out. I am choosing some of these images to redo the plate - hopefully improving upon it with my newer skills - but not necessarily so. Each time I revisit the original watercolour but also use the old plate for ideas. This week I have revisited a print of the view across Rannoch moor. The original was printed at Edinburgh Printmakers workshop. The second at home on the xcut. The question is which do you prefer?

Hi Lindy I originally preferred the top print liking the warmth of the foreground but then decided that the lower print gives a better overall cold feel of the view and the horizon stands out more.

I like the first one in theory but feel the mountain white isn't quite right so have settled for the second one.

I prefer the top print. The composition is much stronger and more cohesive. But on the same note I love the looseness in the bottom print. I think both work for different reasons.

I love both! They look like a completely different time of year. I’m not sure if you were asking which we prefer, or between two names. I prefer the more concise name. Either way, both images are strong.

First of all, they are both beautiful. Most important - they are very different, in the weather and moods they represent. If I could have one, but only one, I would choose the top print, which seems to be the one you created second.
The top print appears to represent first deep snow, going from the autumn season to winter. The bottom print seems instead to depict the last snow, with snow melting to water at its surface, and reflecting that water throughout the composition.
REALLY beautiful prints.
