Variable Edition: River Dee reflections

Picture
In the end, after 6 trial prints (which is a lot for a collagraph - the plate does not always last that long) it turns out the whole image gets its life from the colours in the sky and the reflections in the river.  I had a choice of purple and yellow or orange and blue(see previous blogs). The orange and blue colours came from the prepared ground upon which I painted one of the plein aire water colour sketches.
The trees and foreground were inked  up intaglio - the sky and water colours of blue and orange were rolled on - using viscosity principles - oily ink repels sticky ink. Oily orange ink then sticky blue ink. Very serendipitous! the ink tends to go where it feels like - hence a variable edition.
