I have stayed in Braemar many times, in the campsite, in climbing huts, in cabins, in hotels and a cottage. This is the view up the Dee from a layby just outside Braemar.
This is the same view on another occasion- the top image is the print and the bottom image is the sketch. I am annoyed with myself - the blue sky does not work - I should have stayed with the darker sky - I might have to reprint the whole edition grrrrr. - but you can see that it is from the same place.
This is another sketch waiting to become a print - I really like the views through trees ot lochs, mountains and rivers.
The Linn o Dee is a spectacular gorge waterfall. The image on the right is the collagraph print and on the left the original pleine aire watercolour sketch. The sketch was made in January brrrr- I don't feel the cold whislt sketching - but I sure feel it afterwards and my 85 year old Mum was sketching there too!
Two sketches of Braemar castle - I am pondering about making a collagraph
Another sketch I am pondering about
This is an amalgamation of two sketches from a layby near Balmoral - plein van sketches as opposed to plein aire.
After staying in Braemar in January 2020 my mum and I drove around to Aviemore via the Lecht - I was very excited by the view of a storm over the Cairngorms from the Military road - crepuscular rays etc. - haven't been brave enough to attempt the collagraph yet - but I will.
